Day 2: Beijing

05.12.08

Beijing

it's three in the afternoon and after many, many fruitless attempts at logging into my Wordpress account, I've officially given up.

Walked/cabbed around Beijing today after waking up at five this morning. We got my favorite egg-crepe-crunchy thing for breakfast this morning and it was a bit smaller, one RMB more expensive than I used to get it for, but every bit as delicious.

We continued to meander around the neighborhood, gauging whether or not we actually needed the extra jacket and sweater we packed (no). Then, at approximately 6:30, we got a cab and headed for the Birds Nest, aka the newly erected Olympic Stadium.

The Birds Nest - Chinese people are geniuses when it comes to naming.

Suilifang. it's like bubbles--for the water events, natch.

Guess what this is supposed to be.

Patriotic couple.

I'm so ready to pass out right now and luckily the curtains in our room block out any indication that it's light outside.

we leave for Jiuzaigou tomorrow.

I love mid afternoon naps for realz. Slept from 4 to 7:30. Eat. Sleep. Repeat.

Just got back from dinner at a Korean restaurant – 75 RMB for marinated beef and a seafood pancake – meat was kinda tough, pancake was kinda cakey, but it was relatively (to the US) cheap.

Back at the hotel. Trying to figure out if we really have bad travel luck or if the universe likes to see how we fair in adverse conditions.

Text message from someone Dad works with.
Translation: Earthquake in Sichuan, when you leave, be careful.
