Hope

Watching a pre-recorded television news program in the hotel (5:16 AM). A dude is talking about how we've hit the 80-hour mark (past that at this point) and that hope is bleak for those who haven't been found. A human can survive one week without food, but only 72 hours without water, and this is under normal conditions. Nevertheless, he thinks that those who haven't been found still have some hope (thanks!) and those who have been found should be patient and take time to recover.

And a helpful side comment from my mom: "So if I want to kill you I just have to deprive you of water for 72 hours." nice.

Wolong National Nature Reserve is a protected area located in Wenchuan County,
which houses more than 150 highly endangered giant pandas. (Wikipedia)

pandas!!! no reports of any panda deaths...a group of British tourists visiting the Nature Reserve were reportedly all safe. they're focusing on the people before the animals. Rescue workers saved two family dogs hoping to find the daughter nearby -- the 18 year old had died.

9:05 AM now. woke up at 4:00 AM, left the hotel to walk around at 6:00 AM, had a fantuan from a cart on the side of the road, ate breakfast at 7:00 AM, returning for a nap. we're not trying very hard to correct our jet lag. meh, we're on vacation.
